Nagyar, Calvinist church

"Nagyar, situated alongside the Tisza River, first appeared in the sources along with the neighboring Kisar in the 14th century. Only the north and south walls of the nave have survived from the original building. The church was expanded with a large, wide western space in 1836 and the earlier sanctuary ending in a straight wall was torn down. During an examination of the building begun in 1990, wall paintings were discovered on the northern wall. Two images, Entry into Jerusalem and the Last Supper, have survived relatively intact in the upper row. The images are arranged in two rows consisting of ten scenes and depict the Passion cycle. The wall painting cycle was painted between 1500 and 1510."
